Classroom Clean Up

Dear Parents of Division 12,

As we approach the end of the year, we have a number of clean up tasks ahead of us. If any parents are able to volunteer their time this Thursday or Friday and help with these tasks, as well as cleaning up the open area, that would be much appreciated. I am also trying to send home extra classroom supplies. We seem to have several headphones without student names. Can you please email me if your son/daughter brought in headphones at the beginning of the year and I will do my best to return the headphones to you.

Updates

Dear Parents of Division 12,

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children over the past few weeks. It gives me great pleasure to be back in this classroom and to have the opportunity to work with such an eager, respectful, cooperative and exciting group of students. I am truly looking forward to finishing out the school year with your children. In order to ensure a smooth transition, I have been in communication with Mrs. Startup and Ms. Chand while on maternity leave. In efforts to help your children with the transition, the classroom schedule and many of the classroom routines have remained unchanged. We will continue to carry on with the units of study that were underway when Ms. Chand was in the classroom. I have also appreciated getting to know some of you over the past few weeks as well. A few other important bits of information:

1. We are in need of one parent volunteer to accompany us on the Primary Days of Music fieldtrip. If you are available on Tuesday, May 6^th from 8:50-11:00, please let me know.

2. Our beloved Lisa Gregson (school secretary) will be leaving Brooksbank to pursue another opportunity. Students are asked to bring in one flower on Thursday, which will be presented to her as part of her farewell celebration.

3. A reminder that there will be no school on Friday, May 2^nd due to the Professional Day.

Dear Parents of Division 12,

I wanted to express my gratitude for all of your cooperation and support over the past few months. I have truly enjoyed teaching your children and watching them grow over this period of time. They are a lovely class and I feel fortunate to have been able to work with them. I greatly appreciate all of your time and cooperation, without which our activities would not have been possible. Thank you very much!

I will be teaching the class all day on Monday, April 14th; thereafter, Katherine Lonneberg will be returning to the class. Katherine and I have been working together to ensure the transition will be smooth for the students; moreover, I will be helping out in the classroom over the next little while. The students are aware that I will be within their reach and that they can visit me any time.

Important Events

Sharing - April 15th - April 17th

The theme for next week’s sharing will be “Introductions”. To help with introductions, Mrs. Lonneberg would like all of the students to bring in an artifact that they can use to talk about themselves during Sharing. As Mrs. Lonneberg will be in the class starting Tuesday, April 15th we will start Sharing on that day. Since it will be a shorter week, the Sharing schedule will be doubled on certain days.

Monday & Tuesday Sharing Group —> Tuesday April 15

Wednesday Sharing Group —> Wednesday April 16

Thursday & Friday Sharing Group —> Thursday April 17

Earth Day - April 22nd

In order for the class to participate on some Earth Day activities, we will require 3 parent volunteers from Recess to Lunch (10:20am-12:10pm). It is important to note that the classes that don’t have 3 parent volunteers will not be able to participate in the activities. Please let Mrs. Lonneberg know if you are interested! Thank you!

Also, it would be greatly appreciated, if you could please send an empty cereal cardboard box to school by Thursday, April 16th. They will be used for the activities on Earth Day. Thank you very much!!

DPA - Kilometre Club

Kilometre Club has started this week! 

Days of the week: 

Tuesdays 1:00 - 1:30 

Wednesdays 1:30 - 2:00 

Fridays 10:00 - 10:20

Please remember we will walk/run in most conditions (including light rain). On Kilometre Club days, the children are advised to have coats, shoes they can run in (probably boots on rainy days) and hats (umbrellas are not allowed). Thank you!

the students visited our classroom to teach us more about origami! 

The Artists for Kids Outreach Program came into our class

 to help us make small art projects of our own. 

Artist Bronwen was a great instructor and we all had fun 

learning many new concepts about maps and art! 

We went to Loutet Farm today!

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents,

Hope everyone has had a relaxing Spring Break!

As was mentioned in the letter that went home on the last day before Spring Break, we will be re-starting Themed Sharing during the week of Monday March 31st to April 4th. Your child can bring in an object or draw a picture based on something that they enjoyed doing during Spring Break. The sharing days will remain the same and we will start on Monday, March 31st.

Thank you for taking the time to come and celebrate your child’s accomplishments during the Parent Teacher Conferences. It was lovely meeting all of you! As was mentioned, I will be teaching the class for a few weeks after Spring Break and then Mrs. Katherine Lonneberg will be returning mid-April. We will be working together to ensure the smoothest transition possible for the students.

As we proceed into Term 3, these are the new topics that we will start covering this month:

Socials: Canadian Symbols 

Math: Numbers to 50 (Counting to 100)

PE: Gymnastics

DPA: Kilometre Club will be starting very soon!

*Please note: We have gym on Mondays and Tuesdays, so the students will be participating in the Gymnastics program from Monday, March 31st.

February Update

Dear Parents,

A couple of notes for the end of February:

• Update Information Forms - The forms were handed out on February 26th and must be submitted to the office by Friday, March 7th, 2014. I have been collecting the forms that are in Homework Bags each morning; otherwise, you may hand them directly to the office.

• Loutet Farm - Below you will see a few pictures from our visit to Loutet Farm earlier this month. We helped prepare the "beds" for plants that will be planted soon and also got to eat kale. You can view Division 12’s garlic plant! We will be watching the growth of the plant over the next few months.

• Video Updates - Please click on this link http://www.showme.com/div12 as it has Division 12’s videos on friendship (and earlier videos on family if you didn't get a chance to see them in January). We have been discussing kindness and friendship this entire month as part of Health and Career. The students drew a picture on the iPads and recorded their voices (telling us how they would be a good friend based on little scenarios). Enjoy!

• Parent Teacher Conference schedules should be posted by the school entrance soon. Division 12 will be doing student led conferences, so your child must be able to attend with you at the time that you select. I look forward to meeting all of you!
